As the seasons turn from summer to winter, we find ourselves in the transitional period of Autumn. As I awaken in the morning to see the surreal light of the rising sun lighting up the yellow leaves of the Maple tree outside my window, I feel moved to do something. I could easily take a photo of the tree, but there is more to it than that, adding a person to natures beauty, provides human emotion, something to connect with. As I drive about my day, craning my neck to prolong my gaze upon whatever tree or field I have my eyes set on, I can't help but marvel at how amazing the change of seasons is. I am looking for the right location to portray the inner feeling I feel, something moving, maybe even extraordinary. I feel impacted by the feeling I get within me from seeing my surroundings change from what is familiar to something wholly different.
I know when I am in a place in my life when I feel restless because I need a way to express how I feel and words are not helping, that I turn to photography. Even if I am content and feeling at ease, photography is a language that helps me feel like I can speak without words. When I share this experience with others, especially with someone who may at first be resistant, and when they feel transformed or seen in a way they have not before, that is the magic. It is not easy to describe, it is a feeling and an experience that sometimes happens, and from what I can tell it happens most fluidly when the elements of nature are in the process of transition, such as between seasons or the dramatic clouds before a storm.
